I know that it's roughly about $400aust to get a car lowered and that's with new springs and all, but thats for 4 wheels.

i know you can get ur existing springs cut for cheap but that makes your car unroadworthy and it is very unreliable. i would advise against that.

so i'm guessing maybe $200 for just the back wheels...???

why is cutting springs bad? Has anyone ever done it?

Yeah I cut the springs in my last car (celica) and when you jack it up, the spring CAN, not always, but can fall out of its spot. but if its only about 1/2 a coil... (shrugs) it should be ok.
I had about 2 coils cut off :P
but up to 1 coil should be sweet i think
Anyone else agree/disagree?

NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CUT THE SPRINGS!!!! It really screws everything up. Car won't drive straight and the springs won't be as strong as they should be. Suspension stuff is not something you want to do a half-assed job on. There are safety concerns, and it's just plain stupid to do.

i'd agree with wwiifanatic on this one...

i think cutting springs is a bad idea. it weakens the suspension and can make it too soft which would make your car bounce around a bit.. hehe

well i dissagree with some ppl....
chris aka silvexa had cut springs on his commodore before he had the exa.. and i mean they were CUT a few coils i think....
and yea they can fall out but his suspension was prettf farkin stiff.. hes car used to hug the road...
but yea it is dangerous (as in they can fall out if u go over a speed bump to fast etc.. ) and they are ilegal... :)
but i know a guy who will cut them for ya :D

hmmmm my old commodore !!!
miss it a little..
yeah..
had the springs cut, was sitting like 1-2cm above bump-stops,
looked awsome ! - and the handling was so perfect !

but i dont recommend doing it to a sperty car like the EXA ..
yes it is illegal to cut them, even though it is cheap. u run the risk of your life..
which ends up pretty expensive ! :thumbsdow ,
so take it to a suspension place, that way u get warranty

i never had my "cut" springs fall out..
only once.. was sideways over a small bumb in the road... was driving aratically (spelling?) casue was fighting with my ex at the time... heard the dangling, banging noise, i knew what it was straight away !.. too bad i havent got a pic of my old com. :hitwall:

Not such a great idea to cut the springs.

1. Illegal
2.Unsafe
3.Annoying to drive on over long distance
4. For around 180 dollars you can get yourself a set of lowered springs from Whiteline Automotive. Tested and proven on the race track for the best compromise between comfort and handling...
