hey guys,
i was driving around this morning when a car driving past me caught my eye, naturally it was a n12 exa so i keep lookin to see if it was anyone i knew but when it went past i saw it had a convertable soft top roof!!!! WTF?? did nissan make this standard?? ever? even as a concept? i know u can get cars converted into convertables but this car was completely stock looking cept for the roof! anyway needless to say i reefed up the hand brake pulled a u bolt and continued for the next 20 mins or so trying to catch up. eventually i did and sure enough my eyes didnt fool me it was a N12 turbo EXA with a soft top!! i pulled up beside the car and waved my arms a bit trying to get the older ladie's attention, but nothing, so i followed her till she pulled over where ever she was going then went on my way (as i was late) and she looked a bit grumpy with me for driving like a maniac trying to pull her over. so guys whats the story i've never heard of them, has anyone else? it was in the bayside area of south east QLD by the way? next time i see her i'll try and ask her whats the deal? but for now anyone know? sorry bout the long post, thats bout it, cya,

Hey,
yeah - there were a few factory versions made in Japan (so I believe) and there have been a few more converted. One was up for auction on some site a while ago - an Importer brought it over...

Well going by their body shape it shouldn't be too hard to make it look standard. While we're on the topic I saw a targa MR2 in melbourne, plates "JAWDRP", that was a convertible version that looked an AeroBak clone with cowling bubbles and all!! I was like, what the??!!! I wanna do that to my N13!!! :D :D

sorry to break it do u guys but both the mr2 and the silvia convertables are made like that stock, there are quite a few convertable silvias round but they are rare and the convertable mr2's are like hens teeth!! the mr2 came standard as a convertable model along with a rear tourno cover (aero back) including speed blistery things! look very very tidy with the roof down and cover on, not sure how it'd look with the roof up tho? i know both of those came standard 4 sure but never new bout the exa till today! apparently there were very very few ever made and they were only in japan so seeing one of the two? three? in aus is bout the same chances as being struck by lightning (just not as painfull) man i feel lucky! lol cheers guys,

android180 has a pic of one in his website, i rememebr seeing one years ago in footscray melb, it was silver.
the convertible i would want would be the s15 version, now that looks absolutely ballistic. Too bad they are only a jap domestic market model and the s15s have wayyyy to many problems.

yer im pretty sure there factory i saw a white one about month ago on the high way it was funny because the lady in the passenger seat was holding onto where the roof connected to the top of the windscreen as if she took her hands the roof would fly off ... it didnt look that good the clear plastic rear window was yellowish ... and the car over all looked unclean and ugly ... i think i saw one for sale this week on the trading post in nsw section.

ive heard the s15 have lots of nigglign problems, the 2 major ones would be the gearbox noise and the motors for the windows gets jammed or something and heats up so the window gets stuck and cant be put back down. Not something you want with a newish car.
I would be so pissed off if i bought a new car and it had any sort of niggling problem. I wont even mention the gen3 holden engines then hehehehehe, what a joke :D :D :D

LOL at that! I took on a VY SS the other day at the lights with my T2 6pound boost. Hehe, i gotta know where i stand against these newer commies. Needless to say i got beat, but i sure get a laugh out of it, seeing a middle-aged guy go at it hammer and tongs against a 4cyclinder car.
(Heui, i sent you a PM buddy)
