hey guys.. i read in the paper today that the exhuast decibel limit for passenger cars has been lowered down to "77/78 delibels"
so anything louder can now be defected...

there is a device which can lower your exhaust sound quite a bit whilst adding performance!
it sits on the exhaust manifold and all gasses pass through it and spin a little wheel.
its a turbo!

ha. seriously though. turbocharged engines with mild sized (less than 3.5") exhaust systems are so much quieter than naturally aspirated engines with the same caliber engine.

my car has twin 2.5" exhaust and a twin dump pipe from each turbo and its 10 times quieter than my silvia was which only had 2.25" from extractors back!!

solution: turbocharge all your exa's

lol jimi.. i think everyone wishes they could :P

nar to get it tested goto any good performace shop (like places that do work on ya engines) or any good exhaust shop.. they all should have DB meters (decibel)

was the previous one approx 94 dbs??? that rang a bell for me, and wen i had my exhaust system done they told me that it just scraped in legally.... so i guess now im out by heaps... so ahhhh is it the same story as tinitng like if the system was done before 2003 ur not bound to the new db limit??

i found out that in SA it is 90dbs, and that stock VS commodores have louder than legal limit, so that gives u an idea of how quiet they actually have to be!!

Hey,
are you serious? I dont recon a VS commo would be that loud... Thery are like silent!!! The 5 litre V8's have a bit of a rumble, but I doubt it would be that loud.... Whats your source of this info Dan?

Is there somewhere we can get them tested.

My mate whent to the cop shop to get it tested they said they can test it but if it's over the limit he would get a defect, how shits that hes trying to fix it so its not so loud and they want to give him a fine for it.

most auto exhaust shops will have db meters....they're not overly expensive (we had one at school) so most places will have em...and they won't bother you about defects

my ex '83 exa had an EPA notice .....i took the car to get it register to Vic roads when i was told it had that notice.....

i rang them up, turned out it was given the notice because of "noise pollution" , i had to get it fixed before i could register the car.....

luckly my car was just under the limit.........test was done at an exhaust shop, cost me like $80.
