anyone here got aftermarket intercooler? how big?

Hey,
I got a AVO bar and plate cooler approx. 400x280x80 in size. Bought it second hand with pipes to suit, but did fir it myself and with the help from a fellow member modified it ourselves for the Jap spec inlet manifold and bigger turbo. I put a "duct" around it to make it more efficient.

thats not a bad size! really thick for its size.

how many psi do you run through it? what sort of inlet tempretures do you get before and after the cooler?

i'm about to buy a core thats about 600 x 300 x 80 for the soarer.

hoping to only run about 14psi through it which is the maximum level of my turbo's before they start to spit out ceramic exhaust wheels!

Hey,
yeah - its not a bad little cooler. I havent mesaured the intake temps before the cooler, but temps at the plenum chamber are usually around 25-35 degrees and can go as low as 15 degress at night. My sensor is actually bolted onto the plenum so it does give teh sensor itslef a bit of heat soak also... At teh moment, its only on 10psi, but will go to 20psi shortly. I wouldnt go too clost to 14psi either, just a bit too close to the edge. Sit on 12psi awhich will leave you a bit of room for boost spike and give your ceramic wheeled turbo a bit more life....

mines 800x280x80 for my n12, although it might not be mine for too long, i might be tempted enough to sell it to boosted. mine only runs 10psi through it as well.

i can tell that ity works great because after a long drive one side of the piping is hot then about 1/4 of the way through the cooler its cold and the last 3/4 its freezing hehehe

i have a tiny 250mmX250mmX60 trust cooler, well, i'm 90% sure its trust, seems to flow very well but i get paid out bout it, remember its not size that matters when i smoke their skanky asses!! but i still want hieu's big f*ck off one then i can run mooooore boooost!! :heehee:

Hey,
I bet they'd look at the turbo and say that its been over-boosted and not covered under warranty....
and yeah - how cool is it when you get out and feel the cooler pipes going into the cooler and then comming out of teh cooler!!! I love doing that after a bit of a thrash!

I'm running an HKS Type 1 core, 250X400X66

I have run as hogh as 14 psi on it with the SR, does quite well,
even after a few runs at the strip, it never gets warm...

even when I had the tanks welded on it, it was like 1 minute after and the thing was almost room temperature ;P
