for some of you people who are mechanically inclined, clear tails are a possibilty.
i just did this to see how possible it was...
with a bit of patience it can definatly be done.
i doubt i will finish as i will never use factory pulsar lights again anyhows-hehe

money is good-hehe
maybe i shouldnt leak the secret to separating the lense-haha
if any of yous have tried odds are you prolly bust out the corners right???
that glue is the sh!t
but what ever you do...DONT us acetone!!!
i mean that...the acetone will separate the lense itself and split everywhere there is a join in the plastic!!!
i sold my dual rounds that i made so maybe i should finish these and sell them on ebay or something.

i already busted off the old lenses with a hammer, it was fun :-)
there are my spares tails and i am putting on my clears. but i was just wodnerin how u did it? looks like u cut it off some how.
i read somehwere if u heated up the glue somehow the lenses would unstick and come right out

I'm jealous, I busted mine off to get an idea of what they looked like on the underside. I'm also going to assume that the 'grey' lens you have there is the original lens and you cut out an opening.

Hmm. You've done a great job of making us scratch our heads. Come on give up the game!! It looks like you have used a saw / drill combination to actually cut out the transparent section. The next step I imagine is to replace the removed sections with clear plastic. So the //// would be new but the body-coloured bits surrounding the /// would be original.
Am I on the right track here?? That's how I'd do it anyway.
How do you take the assembly out anyway?? Aren't there seals and gaskets and gluey stuff holding it in??

yeah man, im VERY VERY interested..... if i can find out how 2 do it, ill be at the wreckers 2morro findin odd bits for my exa, and if u can let us in on the secret ill steal the tail lights while im at it and have a go

to get the housing off of the car...
keep the screw-drivers and pry-bars away from the outside(the lense)!!!
if you must pry do it from the inside as you push on the back of the light after you take the four nuts off and disconnect the harness.
as for the lense separation we should do a poll on this...it might be fun-hehe
keep guessing-hehe
like mom said when we were kids...we'll see!
haha(this is not a sarcastic laugh)

I'm already doing my little rendezvous with the taillights, I just wish I could have gotten the lenses out in one piece. I just want to know what you used to seperate the two.

went to the wreckers 2day, and just my luck the exa is gone.... however for anyone in sydney, pick and payless at blacktown has an entire exa wreck (N13) selling for 2K it has a small amount of front passenger side damages (i.e. the light and everything under it is fucked apart from that it has 14" star shaped chromies pod filter original exa wheels also come wiv it.....
anywayz back 2 my poiunt im on the lookout for a wreck that i can scam the tail lights off.......
TTRix - to get the section off (the part in ur pic) is it correct that there are 4 bolts 2 undo, then from inside the boot u just push the section out??? (i havent actually looked at it yet) but is that correct??

Theres no way that the red and yellow parts are two diff peices iv took mine out along time ago and is all one peice if you look at his pic he cut the red out with something when it bens over you can see that it wasnt a straght cut. as for the two peices to come apart I used a heat gun and time take your time I Think I have pics of them on my Cardomain site ill look and if i do ill put up a link.

The yellow and the red lenses are 2 seperate pieces, they are fused/glued together. Busting the lenses apart (kinda fun actually) I looked at the pieces and saw they were 2 seperate pieces.
Honestly I wish I had something that I could put on it the clear out the colours all the way through to get them clear. But since they don't make a product like that.... :hitwall:

couldnt u take the lens to a plastic manufacturing company, get a mould made, and make new lenses except with clear plastic instead of red/yellow.
NX EXA

Getting moulds made are very expensive, and that's if you can get a company to make them. They would require a certain amount of people to order the lenses and will most likely require money down.

Jayson I think you miss understod what i was saying I re read what i wrote and i did the same as you what I ment was the red and yellow peice are 2 but what i think everyone else thinks is that theres a clear peice that gos over the red and yellow and they think that they can seperate the red and yellow from the clear so what i was saying is there is no way that in ttrix's pic that is clear plastic that he seperated from the red and yellow I hope I explaned my self better Ta ta for now

I guess I did mis-read it, my bad. :hitwall: Damn myself for not seeing clear :D
It would be kewl though if there was a clear lens over the coloured lenses....instant clear taillights ...but since Nissan didn't do it that way.... DAMN THEM!! :mafia:

It still appears as though the see-through bit has just been cut out. Does anyone agree / disagree??
Focus

I agree with you Matt it was cut out

I think it looks like a mould of the whole thing, lenses and all and then just the lens bit cut out. I mean ttrix has the equipment and doesn't he work in that industry so why not.
Focus

No thats not a mould thats the light cover that has been painted
TTriX
2nd March 2003, 08:09 AM
that is totally correct...
both things actually...
the lense itself is two separate(actually more)
pieces, the red and yellow are joined with glue.
that's why i said not to use acetone-hehe
that was my prolly my third chemical i tried and it separated every seam in the lense itself.
that is also the original lense...i just primered it to give an idea of what it could look like.
i have cut out more lines since that pic and still have to put the clear plastic in and do all the pretty work.
i have other jobs on the go but i am trying to get some work on the light done while i wait for 'glass to cure.
T
flano...
there are four 8mm nuts and a whack load of polyeurathane like crap that hold them in.
remove the nuts, and push like hell from the inside...once you get it out far enough then you can use screw drivers or pry bars but dont pry using the lense, pry on the white part that is the back of the light!
fehr...
i was going to mould it but then i figured if i cut this one and make it work then i could use it as a "buck" then mould that and then make the copies from the mould.

i think that it would look better if all the /// was cut completely out so that it is an open square with rounded corners and then scavengeing parts from a set of euro lights of approx. the same size. After i get all that put together use plexiglass? possibly as the clear lense. I'm still in the thinking stage but when i get done i'll post a pic.

Hello all,
I have a set of clear tail lights, ready to be sold to the highest bidder :) If anyone is interested, let me know here. I will keep them about a week, then sell them to whomever was the most serious and can pay for them. To my knowledge, there are only 3 sets of true clear lenses for the pulsar in existance, and one of those sets was shot up last weekend. So, whoever gets these, will have the third set.
I have pics if anyone wants to see them.

Oh i didn't realise you had two sets...
phatsar
26th March 2003, 11:49 PM
I didn't till last week. I needed to have a set made to replace another set that I had sold, so I went ahead and made 2 sets while I was at it. So I have the set that is on my car right now, and a fresh set that hasne't been put on a car yet. And these are just the lenses, not the whole casing, so you will have to follow the steps that are outlined above.
Thanks,
Galen
