first q...
is it just the cams...or the whole top end?
does that include the intake and exhaust from the 16de or do i use the one from the 18de?
and finally...do i use the CAS from the 18 or the 16???
thanx.
T
to me, in theory i would use the top end from 16de, intake manifold from the 18de, exhaust manifold from 18de and CAS from 16de...would this be correct???

thanx any hows...
fig'ed it out tonight...
finished tearing down the motor to find out that this is how it goes...
18de-larger valves, larger intake mainfold, dont care about exhaust as i am getting a custom made header...and it's only the cams that are larger!
now i have one final q...
use 16de CAS or 18de CAS???
...someone here should know as this was a very large topic on the old bboard.
thanx,

When I tried to get my cas replaced I phoned nissan and asked him if the ca16de motor had a different part # than the cas on the ca18de motor and he said no, their the same part.
They also said $450!!!!!!! Thats outragious, I'm in edmonton canada here!

I bought the whole top end off a ca16de without cas for $100 AUD. I needed new exahust cams so we sapped, i don't think the swap is worth the time if you're cams are fine, but if their stuffed do it, bhp increase is negligble. Oh yeah the intak cam are came for the ca's, i think, its the exhaust cam thats different. Correct me if i'm wrong, i can't remember.:)

You are right, its the exhaust cam which makes a difference. I'd be interested to see if there's any benefit in offsetting the CA16DE cam by a tooth - depends when it opens & closes the valves compared to the CA18DE intake cam. Obviously some minor tweaking with your engine could get the best from this mod. Will make more difference on an NA than a turbo most likely due to the increased compression & increased lift.
Where'd you source the CA16 head? I've been quoted about 200 - 250 for a whole motor but I'd rather just go for the cam at the price I've found so far.

your mad if you adjust the cam timing by a tooth , thats like 10+ degrees, remember a tooth out is actually a tooth and a space, knock up a adjustable cam gear.

Hey I hadn't worked out how many degrees in a tooth, was just saying that maybe they can be timed somewhat better together depending on when the valves open & close. If your engine isn't running near its potential then you'd be lucky to notice an improvement.

wasn't it the intake cam that was different?
cause thats what is says in the 'list of interchangeable parts' message.
i think thats what i remembered too.

lol yeah i fucked up there, must've been drunk. Definately the intake cams that vary, but the CA18DE and CA16DE cams ARE THE SAME! ;) sorry for the screw up fellas,
only the ca18det has a smaller intake cam.

Hey guys ca16 cams are in my car and are ready to be dynoed just waiting for sum slimline thermo fans to arrive as bigger turbo does not fit and touches my fans :(! Not a huge drama just more waiting time for the approx $250 fans to arrive) but then its tuning and power run here we come! car originally had 135kw at wheels on 14psi. Lets see what she pumps out now will keep you informed! :)
