This may be a sound question (and my bad if it is!) but what is the largest size speaker that you can fit in the front doors without having to modify them?

I have 4x6's in there, WHAT THE!!!

Looking to put splits in when I have finished on the suspension :hitwall:

I am talking about the NX Coupe, not the EXA (gathering by your sig pic). But if that's the case, yeah baby!!

I've got 6 1/2 inch speakers in mine - put in by the previous onwer but I don't think they did do any mods to the door from looking at it.

You will have to make mdf spacers to fit 'em in a nx coupe properly, the other option is fusion make a 4 X 6 plate speaker, I have them in my nx now, straight swap heaps of room behind them for the elecy windows and best of all screw holes all match up, cost between $175-300 depending where you get em who you know sorta thing.....

Hey Didz, NXR20T is right. I should have written in my last reply that from memory mine was fitted without spacers (ps I’m known to have a bad memory)

I had a look over the weekend and found it did have some spacers made out of MDF between the speakers and the door. The spacers would be easy to make and won’t cost much (just need some MDF, a jig saw, a drill, some screws, and maybe a chisel) - I took some photos of mine, so if you want I can send them to you so you get a rough idea how to make them. I may even be able to trace a template for you. I assume that you’re going to mount the tweeter up higher on the door skin.

Sorry giving you a bum steer dude.

Hehe, it's all good my friend. So I will need spacers hey? Would you be kind enough to email me them? I have normal coaxial 6.5" in the front, and plan to use them until I get my splits..

Tracing a template, now that's dedication :D

I have 5 1/4" in mine. I had to make a spacer out of wood because the magnet was hitting the window.

The standards are 4x6 in plastic spacers. I replaced mine with some 6" JL splits but needed 24mm spacers! That cleared the window by about 7mm's, but I had to cut away some of the door trim - it wasn't visible because it's under the grill anyway. It all fits perfectly now.

Can get pics if you want?

Thanks Dac,

I didn't get a real look at your car (not that I want to be a perve or anything :p) but yeah I wouldn't mind seeing where you placed the tweeter and the sound it's giving out.

I'm getting a JVC amp that will power my sub and splits that I am going to purchase.

Sorry Didz, I keep forgetting to get those pics to you - they're on my home PC so I'll try to do something about it over the weekend.

I put the tweeters in the upper corner of the door trim. Funny thing was I stuck them there with double sided tape first, just to get the staging correct. All sounded good and there was no audible difference between the left and right (ie the were balanced) but when I installed them they were inbalanced DOH! So now I have them adjusted a touch to the left on the HU.

I'll take pics when it stops raining

Thanks Woodyboy for the pics of the spacers :D

wheelspin - don't you just love that. I think I'll get a pro to do the install and staging for me (FHRX from Fast Fours Forum) :)
