The new banner

Hey everyone, waaaaaaassssssssssssssuuupp??

What do you guys think of the new nissanexa.com banner?

i'm a graphic designer so i pick up every little fault. i love it, really nice work but it would be more effective if the cars outer glow was less opaque. right now it looks a little bit like its being cut out with a soft edge brush. less glow would define the shape a bit more. maybe a different colour glow, possible the light blue (even lighter than that) of the siloette exa, just so it contrasts and balances the colour a bit more. A bit of the text ( [the ) gets lost in the white nx (differnet test or colour maybe that of the green or maroon exas). I love the way the glow right at the bottom particuly under the n12 it really grounds it.

BIG improvement ;)

yeh i agree with you there.. i didnt notice them at first but now that you mention them it could be 'fine tuned' a little..

hey caily, i do graphic design too (3rd year @ uni) ......the green n12 is errmmm......i volenteer ma car if u wanna use the pics.....look in 'for sale' thread... or can we just pshop the wing off the green 1....

and also the n13 exa is the most prominent car owned by people in this club and there is a shadow across the front of it..... to the untrained eye it could be mistaken for a .....prelude UhOH .....

is it ok if i have a go at makin one?, who do i email it to? and in what format...
do you want a flash banner?

yeh deffinatly go with the flash idea that would be so good, i just started learning that now so i aint a pro (yet!!) guess if you know it.... go for it. maybe a little .wav sound when you mouse over it. just a suggestion

Yeh Paz man, make one! Talk to GPexa (Warren) or Howie about what format etc. (though the current one is just .gif format).. I think a flash one would be cool though!

100% honestly i dont like it... id rather the old one.... the old one was simple and neat... mind u it looks ok but wen u start getting picky over the "rear wing" of the cars it gets too much... banners shoulda care, they r like a quick summary of wots the sites about not a poularity contest....
maybe get stock ones up there, i think that would be it look more classy, less of n ammature site that just sticks anything anywhere for the fun of it, if u kno wot i mean... similar to the "history" section or woteva it is on the main nissanexa.com page where it lists the diff versions of exas...

the moderators did a group vote.. and that is the one that was chosen..
there are a few others similar..

nah looks veri good stands out heaps, and when people come to vist the site they will imediatly get a taste of what is inside, 3 good cars where chosen...

A banner is the first thing that people see when they come here. If it looks tacky they may think that it is a forum that is full of 16 year olds that say things like "coolies" and try and get to 10000 posts as quick as they can.... but if the banner is sophisticated yet has tasteful colour scheme, then people will wanna stay and feel as if they are a part of something important. THe reason i mentioned the wing is because 99% of n12s ive seen dont have a wing for the simple fact that it looks terrible most of the time and is not a good representation of the n12.

anyways, i'll start on a banner, and work some flash if i have time...

Yea the more I study the new pic the more I think it looks like a dog's breakfast..
it needs to be made to look a bit more classy and less tacky!

The nissanexa.com silhouette shouldn't be obscured like it is now!

using flash in place of a graphic can definately make some things better, but in this situation I don't know if it really matters to be honest.

A mouseover sound? this seems a little tacky to me... and a very few others were complaining about 'tackiness'. Its a banner, not a navigation system, it doesn't need sound, its purpose is to sit there & do nothing but provide visual appeal & a title/header for the page. Flash has its uses, but too many people use simple flash commands because its easy & they can.... so its easily overused & in situations that don't require it.

I prefer the new banner over the old, and so therefore I like it. If some of you don't or think it can be improved thats fine, i can see some improvements to be made as well, but overall I think its much better than what was posted up before so I give it the thumbs up.

We're all *hopefully* car enthusiasts, not art critics, not little kids who cry about something 'the webmaster' did to their favourite site.

exabaybee, the thing about graphic design is that we WANT people to critisise what we do. We get it from the clients, we get it from the boss and family and friends. there is a good thing to constructive critisism, it makes things alot better. The problem with us is that we can't stop looking at banners, signs, brochures, whatever and want (i mean can't stop) playing with every element to see what could look visually better. please dont take offence, really sorry if you did. the banner is excellent.

i'm talking about the old saying "first impressions last"..... ;) if the index is ugly (which it isnt) then not many people would want to be a part of it....

and yes your right, a flash banner for exaclub would be more of an annoyance than anythin....

Personally, i think the old one went better with the colour and layout of the website, this new kinda takes all of your attention to the banner, and it has to much colour (i think)

I threw it together as quick as you can... if someone would like to design another logo, go for it, as I'm no graphic designer, I'm a web developer...

We'll have no flash here, as a) as much as I like Macromedia, I hate the stuff... and b) it is a pain in the arse bandwidth wise for people who have dialup still, and have caching issues...

The reason I put it together quickly is that this site has long been n13 based, and it's about time we got more of the other two cars as well... As I said, put together a nice logo, post it here, and we may well use it, with credits to you on the front page :) If you do go designing one, just make sure it stays in the current dimensions, and doesn't have some far out colour scheme behind it, as we'll be keeping the black background for the time being I'd say :)

i like it but i also agree wif what has been said before with it should simply explain what the sit is about....any logo for that matter should do that and i deal wif a lot of clients as i am sure most of us do that the logo is their main deal of business. the logo should be simple, catchy but u remember that.
the old logo was that but it didnt include the nxcoupe so it didnt include our site as a whole.

kylie, my old n12 (lowered, yellow with 16s), my new n13 (white, with 17s) and haydens nx-r (lowered with 17s)

(all clean original looking cars with aftermarket wheels and standard bodywork)

i could get a good pic of the three..... may be worth a shot, good plain examples of exa/nx
